If you're planning a trip to Italy and looking for something off the beaten track, it's well worth exploring Val d'Orcia. The food, wine, views, and culture make it an unforgettable experience, and you can see many hill towns with an easy loop drive.
Don's miss Montalcino. I could live here! And my pick for the best lunch is Osteria di Porta al cassero. This renowned restaurant is known for its traditional Tuscan dishes, like "pappardelle with wild boar" and the finest Brunellos de Montalcino. To our surprise, the table sitting next to us stood up and began spontaneously singing. It was an unexpected moment, one we'll remember forever! Check out the video below.
After lunch it was time to continue our road trip through the Val d'Orcia region of Italy. Our next stop was Pienza, a charming town known for its stunning views and delicious pecorino cheese. Little did we know it was also hosting a classical music festival! We were lucky enough to hear some beautiful melodies as we strolled around the town.
We then drove to Montepulciano, renowned for more hilltop views and more wine. Because it was getting late in the afternoon, it seemed like we were the only ones there! We had an incredible panoramic view of the rolling hills and vineyards all to ourselves while the sunset.
The Tuscan countryside was breathtaking and it's easy to see why it's so beloved by travelers. So if you're planning your own trip to Italy, don't forget to rent a car and explore. Or call me to set up a tour for you. But be sure to add Val d'Orcia to your travel itinerary.
